Pauline reports Update: ECMWF Relocation to University of Reading's Whiteknights Campus

I have just received the following update which will be of interest to local residents. Construction is set to begin in February 2025 on the new European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) facility at the University of Reading’s Earley Gate site. This follows a lease agreement signed between the University and the Government Property Agency (GPA) in December.

  • The site preparation, including demolishing the former School of Art building, is complete.
  • Mace is the appointed construction company, with the building targeted for completion by December 2026 and ECMWF staff moving in 2027.
  • Traffic management plans aim to minimise disruption, limited to the Earley Gate campus entrance.

This state-of-the-art facility will strengthen research collaboration, support economic growth, and provide cutting-edge forecasting capabilities.
